How to measure a garment
Lay the garment flat on a table, smooth it out without stretching, and measure with a soft tape.
From the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the hem.
Straight across, 1 inch below the armholes, side seam to side seam. Double it for the full chest.
From the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve or cuff. For raglan sleeves, start at the center back neck.
Across the top of the waistband, relaxed. Then fully stretched for elastic waists.
From the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem.
How far a finished piece may differ from your number. Usually ½ inch on big measurements and ¼ inch on small ones.
